There are few artists who could bring Moore's sublime vision to life, but Bissett and Totleben are more than up to the challenge, to the point where, should they no longer appear on the book, I may have to invent a time machine, go back 40 years to this books creation and get a riot going.Moore leans heavily into the horror genre throughout and even drags you through hell in one issue, but the grandmaster is also concerned with exploring far weightier themes while he unravels twist after turn. Upon sliding the massive tome out of its slipcase, I was delighted to discover an unexpectedly mossy feel to the cover. Swiftly killing most of the supporting cast and also its main character Swamp Thing, making a fresh start for the title and knocking it out of the park from day one.

When Alan Moore took this book over from Len Wein, he had a completely different vision of what Swamp Thing was. It's a very similar creative team, and they even replicate a splash page of the villain in the forefront and a a city in ruins in the background. But then along comes a knight in dirty, plant encrusted armor (and probably not smelling too good either I imagine). There is so much to discuss and unpack here that I have no idea where to begin, but I believe that as many people as possible should read this.

It is a little expensive and it has a twin (second volume) but if you ever wished to experience this series for the first time again, now is your chance. So even though I love the themes and message Alan Moore is trying to say throughout these stories, I find them to be a little boring at times.
