About this deal

Claudia is also a Culture Editor at The McGill Daily whilst currently doing an exchange year at McGill University. Both characters were bold, courageous, and brilliantly written; they accomplished much more than individuals at their (fictional) time were able to. I am happy to share that I have been offered the position as Culture Editor at The McGill Daily, an independent student newspaper at McGill University that has been in operation since 1911. Her novel, Little River, explores Scotland’s role in slavery in the Caribbean, with a particular focus on Scottish sugar barons in Jamaica from 1731 to 1812.

Efemini does not refrain from straightforward and unapologetic honesty, transporting the reader with the courageous voices of Chioma and Onome. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). The British attempt to erase the fact that terrible murders and other unpleasant acts of violence are happening in Asaba and probably other parts of Nigeria, as well as the part they played in creating an environment of fear and cruelty there. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Not long ago did I do a podcast episode with a close friend of mine Esther Akinyomi, for One Edinburgh (an organisation that aims to support international students navigate their way around the UK higher education system). This is where Onome’s logical and straightforward thinking fails her, It was extremely upsetting to read this the moment (I am still upset even though she does make amends and admit her lack of compassion for Chioma as a witness to the violence and a close friend). Many of us who live abroad and don't get the chance to come back home feel like we lose parts of who we are and our country the longer we are gone, but this felt like a piece of home. The University of Edinburgh has been home to numerous talented individuals, and second-year history and politics student Claudia Efemini is no exception. Put simply, it all started as an extended essay that I wrote in my last year of the International Baccalaureate diploma programme that I later decided to translate into a fictional narrative during my first year of university.

Nevertheless, I cannot deny that the general neglect of African history during my first two years has only made me hungrier for history pertaining to Nigeria.

A second-year History and Politics student at the University of Edinburgh, Claudia is also one of the youngest published authors in Scotland.

This was all brought together by another amazing friend, undergrad in International Relations and International Law, ACS (African-Caribbean Soicety) President and many other amazing things Rutendo Hoto.Such a mindset demonstrates a lack of empathy and a lack of desire to make amends for the harm caused. Nigerian history is something that I am greatly passionate about and looking through a degree programme that makes little mention of Nigeria sparked a burning desire in me to fulfil my passion through writing historical fiction. The cover beautifully encapsulates the story of Onome and Chioma as they respectively navigate the streets of London and Asaba faced with intense censorship following the Asaba massacre.
